In the 2014 film, she reprised her role in the role of the main character and in the 2019 revival. Bell has been on the screen from 2007 to 2008 as Elle Bishop in Heroes, the superhero drama. She played the character of the title narrator in the teen drama series Gossip Girl, reprising the role in the 2021 sequel. Bell also starred as Jeannie van der Hooven the female lead in the Showtime comedy series House of Lies. She also acted as Eleanor Shellstrop in the NBC comedy series The Good Place. This role earned her a nomination for an Golden Globe Award. Bell was also the lead character on the streaming show The Woman in the house The Girl in the Window, which is across the street from the Girl in the Window.
